San Miguel
River Preserves
Public Visitation and Education
The San Miguel preserves are open to the public.
Guided field trips are offered for the National Conservatory
members and other. School groups from neighboring
communities are welcome to visit the preserves in the company
of a guide and a teacher.
Guidelines for Visitors to the San Miguel River Preserves
● The preserves are for day use only.
● Dogs and other pets are not permitted.
● Camping, fires, hunting and fireworks are not permitted.
● Collection of plant, animal or mineral specimens is not permitted, except for
pre-approved projects.
● Organized recreational activities such as softball games and cookouts are not
permitted.
● Catch-and-release
fishing only with
artificial flies and
lures is permitted at
San Miguel Canyon
and South Fork
preserves. San Miguel
River at Tabegauche
Creek has no special
fishing restriction at
this time.
● Specific preserve
regulations are
posted at the
boundaries of each
preserve.
The Nature Conservancy

is to preserve plants, animals and natural
communities that represent the diversity of life on

survive.

since 1963 using a cooperative, non-confrontational approach
to find creative solutions to sensitive land and water issues. With
the help of our dedicated supports, The Nature Conservancy has
protected thousands of acres of Colorado's unique landscapes. Please
